Interdisciplinary Literacy

Interdisciplinary Literacy is not an additional ELA or math class. It is a 5th academic. We incorporate standards or skills they are learning in their content classes and extend their learning.

The interdisciplinary classes are heavily focused on:

• Collaborative groups
• Questioning
• Higher order thinking skills
• Real-world applications

Example units in 6th grade include:

• Landforms/map skills
• Researching energy alternatives
• Mayan Civilization 

Example units in 7th grade include:

• Planning and building tiny houses
• Crime scene investigation
• Biomes
