The Science Fair Club is open to 8th-grade students interested in exploring real-world science through research and experimentation. Members will prepare for competition and showcase their projects at the school’s Science Fair.

The Hendricks Middle School Art Club is a creative space where students can explore and develop their artistic skills outside of the classroom. The club meets monthly before school at 8 a.m. and offers a quiet place for students to sketch and talk with other students about art. It encourages self-expression, collaboration, and experimentation with different art materials and techniques. Open to all skill levels, the club fosters a fun, supportive environment for students who enjoy art and want to grow their talents. Members may also participate in school displays, community art events, and contests.

Applications are open August 14th and are due back by August 21st at the end of the day. There are 30 spots available for each grade level. Dues are $30 and will be available on School Pay once your student has been accepted.

The AV Team is a small group of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who will help create our school broadcast, podcast, video podcast, and other media projects throughout the year. We're looking for students who are creative, responsible, dependable, curious, enthusiastic, and willing to learn. You don't need to already know how to use cameras or editing software. We're much more interested in finding students who are excited about creating, working with a team, and learning new skills. An application process will be used to select the six crews (limited to 25 total students).

Chess club is for anyone interested in playing chess with friends. Chess players of all levels are welcome! We will meet once a month before school. Students will be able to learn the basics of the game as well as refine skills they already have based on their experience. See Mr. Miller for more information.

The HMS Cosmetology Club is a fun and creative club for students interested in learning more about hair, makeup, and nails! Members will explore beginner-friendly techniques, try new styles and trends, and participate in hands-on activities that allow them to express their creativity. 

The Cosmetology Club is open to 6th, 7th and 8th Graders. Spots will limited. Reach out to Mrs. Jernigan with questions.

Applications were given out at the interest meeting on August 25th. Applications will be accepted until the limit of 20 per grade level is reached. As of August 26th at 4:30PM, we are not accepting anymore applications for 6th and 7th graders. There are a few spots left for 8th graders.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. All communication will be located on the DECA Canvas Course. 

The Hendricks Drama Club, The Soaring Stage, is an extracurricular performance opportunity for any student looking to explore their creativity on stage or behind the scenes--no prior performance experience required! The Soaring Stage will meet on Tuesday mornings in Mrs. Burnell's room (rm. 1308) throughout the year to rehearse for the spring show. Students of any grade level can be involved, and participation in the productions as a performer is by audition only. Students can also be selected to assist with sets, costumes, and backstage work. Commitment to each production is of the utmost importance. Everyone is welcome to audition for The Soaring Stage Productions!

Members will also have the opportunity to travel to the Junior Thespians Conference in Milledgeville, GA to sharpen their skills and  participate in a variety of workshops, master classes, individual performances, and technical theatre events led by theatre professionals from around the country, all while you get to hang out with middle school students from around the state.

The goal of this organization is to inspire & prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through innovative leadership and career development experiences. These include several field trips to leadership building events, volunteering, and public speaking and computer-related competitive events.

Hendrick's Middle School's Food and Nutrition Club is a space for students with a passion for athletics and nutrition to meet together to learn strategies about fueling their bodies with care. Students will learn about and discuss the benefits of healthy eating as a way to feel great and improve performance both in the classroom and on the field. Students will have the opportunity to research and present their own information about nutrition to share with their peers. We can't wait to see you there

We’re looking for 8th-grade writers, journalists, photographers, and artists to launch our brand-new school magazine! Whether you write fiction, want to interview teachers, recap sports, or design layouts, there's a place for you on our team. Applications for staff and editorial roles open soon—stop by Room 2403 or talk to Ms. Krulac to learn more!

Math Competition Team

Are you interested in competition math? Find out what opportunities Hendricks offers!  

he HMS math competition team is open for all 6th-8th grade students to try out.  Our 2025-26 team had 125 students, selected by their mathematical strength demonstrated during tryouts. The competitions are mainly held during the school year at our Thursday morning meetings at 7:45 a.m. and occasionally during Flex Time. A few of the competitions take place on Saturday mornings at local schools or virtually.  

To sign-up to tryout for the HMS Math team, use this form. Complete the form before Tuesday, August 19.  

Tryouts for the math competition team will be held Thursday, August 27th.   The members selected will receive an invitation to join and a calendar with upcoming meeting dates. There will be a fee of $120 to join the Math Team.

Media Center Student Advisory Board is an opportunity for students to participate in media center programming. Students assist in planning events, programming and day to day media center duties. Students must apply for this opportunity.

Robotics is designed to transform STEM learning for young students and their teachers. Through robotics competitions, students are tasked with designing, building, coding, and driving a robot to play against other teams from around the world in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test on the playing field as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership. Communications, and more. The robotics team competes on Saturdays about once a month and meet after school twice a week. 

2026-2027 RECF Engage: Tier Takeover

If students are interested in applying for the Robotics Team, they will need to pick up a paper application from Mr. Gibbons during the first few days of school (8/6-8/13). All applications are due to Mr. Gibbons by 4:15pm on August 14th.

The Soccer Informational Meeting will be held in November and will cover everything students and families need to know about joining the 2026–2027 soccer season.

The season will begin in the spring. We are still waiting for the county to provide official start dates and will share that information as soon as it becomes available.

Tryouts will take place at the beginning of the season and are open to all HMS students in grades 6–8. We are also hoping to add an all-girls team at Hendricks this year.

Students must have a current physical on file by December in order to be eligible to try out for soccer.

We look forward to meeting with your student in November and answering any questions you may have then.
